Does anyone remember that Superb Mario Bros. game? I remember giving you guys a link to the mockup. Anyway, it was AGES ago, like, last year or something.
So, about a week ago, I get an email from the guy that I worked with on Superb Mario Bros, who I haven't talked to since. He asks if I still do pixel art, and whether if I'm interested in doing another game project with him. He outlines the basics of the game.
It's a cross between puzzle and platformer. It's been done before, but this is different.
It's about a boy who travels the land (we've barely made any story yet), and comes across puzzles. He has to solve them to get past. After going through puzzles he finds
Lost Souls, that give him powers. There's 26 Lost Souls in the game (I've told him to reduce it to 9, but I haven't got a response yet), and each Lost Soul is assigned to a key on the keyboard, and pressing (or holding) the key activates the skill.
At first, the boy can only walk left and right. When he finds the first Lost Soul,
Aero, it gives him the ability to jump. So, pressing 'A' on the keyboard makes him jump. When he finds the second Lost Soul,
Sonic, it gives him the ability to run fast. So, holding 'S' on the keyboard while walking makes him run fast. These were the two examples he explained.
I thought it was a pretty interesting concept.
So far, I've made a walking animation. It's Andrio, but the boy in the game will most likely look very different. Everytime I keep looking at the animation, I like it even more.
I've also half-done a mockup, but I've decided I'll keep these secret until we get further along in the game.
Comment on the walking animation. :D
