Internet Channel Update in December

Because Nintendo knows you don't use your Internet Channel enough (Shame on you!), they'll be updating the Wii's browser next month. New features will include the much begged for Tabs feature, which is standard for the majority of Browsers nowadays. Not only that, but it will be in cube form so you have something pretty to look at. Also included is some unknown form of WiiSpeak functionality. See your Wii mail from the browser. And some other new buttons (see above image).

New users will still have to cough up 500 Wii NintendoPoints, while those who already have it will pay nothing.

Wii Speak Details: Price and Channel

People finally got what they asked for since the Wii began there Wi-Fi Connection, a way to talk to there friends through Wi-Fi. At E3 08, Nintendo finally announced that the Wii will receive a new feature to talk to your friends, and it is simply known as the Wii Speak.

Now, once this was announced, there was very little detail about release date and pricing (other than it will come out with/without Animal Crossing: City Folk). Also, there was the Wii Speak Channel that was announced but people still wondered how will they get it. Will it be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel? Well, for those who are interested in the Wii Speak and want to know how to get it, here's what joystiq has for you!

joystiq wrote:

You can get your hands on Nintendo's talkin' puck on Nov. 16, either bundled with Animal Crossing: City Folk for $69.99, or by its lonesome for $29.99. The accessory comes with a coupon which allows you to download the Wii Speak Channel for free (we're unclear whether City Folk includes said coupon), which will be available for download sometime in December -- and yes, you can only chat with those whose unwieldy friend codes you've already acquired. Sure, it's a minor inconvenience -- but considering the social gaming revolution this peripheral will initiate, it's a hoop we're certain you'll be willing to jump through.

First DSiWare games/apps announced

At a financial briefing that took place today in Japan, Nintendo announced the first wave of DSiWare games to hit Japan in December. Summed up in three words: lots of Wario.

The first games will include repackaged set of minigames from WarioWare: Mega Microgame$! (not the actual microgames, but the fleshed-out minigames you got for completing sets). These will sell for 200 Nintendo Points.

Another WarioWare launch title will be Utsusu! Made in Wario, which will use your silhouette as the playable character.

Moving into non-Wario subjects, Nintendo will continue its Art Style series on the DSi, with some original games apparently in the pipeline, but nothing new in the way of bit Gen remakes.

Finally, a set of interactive Japanese subway maps will also be released.

The Nintendo DSi will release in Japan tomorrow, in Europe during Spring 2009, and in North America sometime after April.
It has been announced that The Conduit has found its publisher! It's Sega.

Guitar Hero World Tour: New Details

Hey, guess what? Guitar Hero World Tour releases on the Wii in just about four days. And with that, some new details arise.

First, some details we already knew:
-Mii compatible.
-Every mode in the 360 or PS3 versions is supposedly in this version too.
-Downloadable Content!
-Band vs. Band online (4 vs. 4).
-DLC can be stored in either Wii internal memory or SD card.
-Freestyle mode is exclusive; can play air drums with Wiimote/Nunchuck.
-Etc.

Now, the new news isn't all that great, but it will calm some people's fears of exactly how DLC will work.
-DLC Songs or User created songs can be puled straight off the SD Card, no need to transfer them to the Wii first.
-Songs are purchased in-game, with Wii Points.
-Standalone Drum controller will be available post-launch.
-Most songs will take up 150 to 200 blocks of memory.

I think this will be the first retail Wii game to make use of the new orange Wi-Fi Connection logo "Pay to Play" thing. But if paying isn't your thing, there will be some free songs that will be available for download. Of course you can always get some of the user created stuff. Rock out to Mario or Portal any day!

Guitar Hero: World Tour is set to release on the 26th of October. Be sure to continue using OneClick Wi-Fi to find friends and other players to play with and rock on!

World of Goo: The Best Damn Rated Game Ever?

When someone asks you a question, "What is the best rated game ever in the history of video games?", what would you think? People would probably answer The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Bros., Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy VII, and the list goes on. But currently at this point every single answer would probably be wrong when the correct answer at this time is World of Goo.

Just recently released on the WiiWare, World of Goo has already become a big hit with it's constructive puzzle type game that will want you to come back more and more. According to Metacritic, World of Goo has an average of 97/100 (according to 6 reviews).

Sure, most of you will probably say, "That's only 6 reviews, give it time and it'll drop," and you are probably right. However, this still is pretty good overall rating for a game that just came out. You should keep a good eye on it and may be even purchase the game if you want to on WiiWare. For $15 and with such great reviews so far, this game may even feel more like a steal.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon Preview

Being released on August 5th, Japan has already gotten a taste of the newly designed Fire Emblem for the Nintendo DS. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a remake of the Famicon's Fire Emblem. Only to be released in Japan in 1990, this game is pretty much the English game we have been waiting for to tell the story of Marth, which people may know from Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl.

Mainly, if you played the Japanese Famicon version (or already played the DS version), the story is all the same, but with a few new content added into the game.

IGN wrote:

Four prologue chapters have been added to further flesh out the story. A tutorial is also now in place to help out players who may not be familiar with turn-based strategy games. The Fire Emblem series is known for being challenging, and from what we've seen of Shadow Dragon so far that challenge was in place since the beginning of the franchise.

Three save options are now available: your progress can be logged in between battles, you can quick save during a fight to restart later (although the file will be deleted when you return), and there are also checkpoints on maps that will automatically create a mid-battle save file. The checkpoint system is a way of rewarding the player for completing major objectives during a conflict.

Not only do these features exist, but the for the first time in the series, Fire Emblem: Shadow of Dragon will use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for up to five characters from the single player campaigned can be used in battle against other players. For every victory you get gives you receive Cards, which give you special effects during battles. However, these Cards can always be toggled on/off.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon will be released Q2 2009 for the Nintendo DS.

Cave Story Wii Video Footage Released

Three videos have been released for Cave Story Wii so far and have received large amounts of criticism from fans.

The main differences between the original Cave Story for PC and this 'beta' Wii version are that the music is new composed of lame MIDIs (the original used special ORG files), Quote's sprite has been changed (this can be over looked), some of the sound effects are different, the 'transition' between rooms looks different and lastly, the font is different. I'm just hoping that the game reverts back to the music/sprites/fonts that the original PC version used.

Update: It has been confirmed by Pixel, the creator of Cave Story that the game will feature both a port faithful to the original and an 'enhanced' port.

The return of Lara Croft was a huge announcement for everyone, hitting on the 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, DS, PC, and your Phone! Now, Crystal Dynamics creative director Eric Lindstrom announced the new Player Tailoring option. With me explaining it may get confusing, I think a quote will due.

MTV Multiplayer wrote:

Though November’s “Tomb Raider: Underworld” is ostensibly a faithful continuation of the franchise featuring everyone’s favorite buxom adventurer, there is one fundamental difference: You can now customize the gameplay to fit your play style by making certain aspects of the game easier or harder.

These mid-game difficulty weaks are presented in addition to the standard pre-game Easy/Normal/Hard options.

Let’s try to get through this without confusing you…

At a demo in a New York City hotel yesterday, Crystal Dynamics creative director Eric Lindstrom showed me the “Player Tailoring” menu. It included a set of options such as enemy health, ammunition capacity, damage to Lara, and time for saving grabs. Each of those parameters could be set to Less, Normal and Extra.

And though the menu can be accessed at any point during the game, Lindstrom said that changing these options in the middle of a fight — like during a battle between three tigers, for instance — won’t affect anything until the next encounter.

Tomb Raider: Underworld is set to release November 18, 2008 across platforms I already mentioned.

Nintendo Media Summit... agian?

Remember that time around spring where Ninty showed off some WiiWare, WiiFit, <s>WiiSnore</s> Rock Band, Samba de Amigo, Star Wars TFU and much more? Doesn't matter if you do or don't, Nintendo is doing it agian.

Recently a rumor went around the net saying that Nintendo would hold a media summit in Japan this fall. And despite the rumor originating from 2chan, according to WiiFanboy, it happened to be true. Apart from being set in Japan.

The Media Summit will happen on October 2nd and 3rd, in San Fransisco and Nintendo is likely to show off none other than WiiMusic... again. All we "hardcore" gamers can hope for is new details on Pikmin and perhaps Animal Crossing. Oh yes, and some DS games too (What else is coming for the DS besides Chrono Trigger and Sonic Chronicles?).

Also worth mentioning is another rumor of a Guitar Hero: Jimi Hendrix edition. According to none other than Slash of Guns n' Roses fame. Expect that one some time after the Metallica one.

The Conduit to feature friend codes / no DLC

Recently, a staff member from High Voltage spoke to Nintendo Radio in an interview explaining they have no plans on releasing Downloadable Content for their project "The Conduit." However, he stated that even though DLC is absent from the first one, they might include it in the sequel if it ever happens.

He went on to explain more about the game:

Bob Nicholls wrote:

-The Conduit’s control scheme partially based on Metroid, Medal of Honor

- Gimmicky Wii waggle is limited because they didn’t want to disrupt the pacing of the game - Other ideas concerning waggle are a “little more out there,” might be considered for the sequel

- Trying to get a lot of “Oh my God” moments in the game, things you wouldn’t expect

- If you want, you can pay attention to the story or just ignore it

- Definitely looking into WiiSpeak and MotionPlus - Will only incorporate them they aren’t afterthoughts

- If the developers have to use friend codes (and they admit they will probably have to), they will make it as streamlined and fast as possible. Still looking at every possible option.

- 3 types of weapons: Alien weapons, human weapons, weapons you get from Trust

- Once again, can’t do splitscreen with the graphics-level (Developers weren’t trying to tick off gamers. Rendering has to be displayed with different angles two times.) Will look into it in the future. Looking into some types of co-op play. Possibly come up with a seperate co-op mode (not the story mode)

- Have not started a second Conduit. Sequel a part of negotiations with publisher.
