Remember that time around spring where Ninty showed off some WiiWare, WiiFit, WiiSnore Rock Band, Samba de Amigo, Star Wars TFU and much more? Doesn't matter if you do or don't, Nintendo is doing it agian.

Recently a rumor went around the net saying that Nintendo would hold a media summit in Japan this fall. And despite the rumor originating from 2chan, according to WiiFanboy, it happened to be true. Apart from being set in Japan.

The Media Summit will happen on October 2nd and 3rd, in San Fransisco and Nintendo is likely to show off none other than WiiMusic... again. All we "hardcore" gamers can hope for is new details on Pikmin and perhaps Animal Crossing. Oh yes, and some DS games too (What else is coming for the DS besides Chrono Trigger and Sonic Chronicles?).

Also worth mentioning is another rumor of a Guitar Hero: Jimi Hendrix edition. According to none other than Slash of Guns n' Roses fame. Expect that one some time after the Metallica one.

As the month of August is over with, the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS top the hardware sells yet again. According to NPD Group, the Wii and DS both took top sales not only in hardware, but games as well.

NPD Group wrote:

In August, more than 514,000 portable Nintendo DS systems sold in the United States, bringing the lifetime U.S. total to nearly 22 million. In August, more than 448,000 Wii consoles sold in the United States, bringing the lifetime U.S. total to nearly 12 million and extending its lead as the best-selling video game console of this generation.

Five games made for Nintendo systems placed in the top 10 best-selling games of the month, including Wii Fit™ at No. 4 with nearly 395,000 sold, Mario Kart® Wii at No. 5 with nearly 329,000 sold, Wii Play™ at No. 6 with more than 200,000 sold, Madden NFL 09 All-Play for Wii at No. 9 with nearly 116,000 sold and Guitar Hero: On Tour for Nintendo DS at No. 10 with more than 111,000 sold.

The games may have not taken the top 3 sales spots, but taking at least five of the ten spots is still impressive. Now, go and enjoy the source linked to my crappy banner!

How on earth did that happen?! Well, that's an interesting story...

For the launch of Summer Athletics on Wii (also on PS2, 360 and PC), Eidos held an event in London which combined real sports and videogames in an interesting mashup... check out the Wii-lay, Gamecube Hurling, and the Xbox Putt!

BGB was there to film the day, and the video of the event has gone online today - as well as the full results of the three events, you can also get the full verdict on the latest track and field effort.

You can find the video at http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/?p=1472.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games may not be great to the hardcore audience. But to a Japanese Olympic swimmer, it's inspiring.

"See, Mario does the breaststroke," Japanese Olympic swimmer Kosuke Kitajima explains. "And thus, it's perfect mental training for envisioning the actual Olympic hall." And the next thing you know, he's won a gold medal.

Well, don't be surprised if sales of the game spike a bit after his comment. Young, aspiring athletes will be adding Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games to their daily regimen for sure! Now all we need to do is get a celebrity to say something about OneClick and we'll be set for life!

"Oh, I train my Pokémon by battling the community of OneClick Wi-Fi on a daily basis," A famous person explains. "Do I win? Umm... no," He/She chuckles before jumping in a pool of money.

Not because Shiggy likes doing drugs, watching porn or teaching his pet parrot to cuss at Sony and Microsoft. No, that's not their reason. Their reason is that if he were to share his hobbies, the industry would know what Nintendo would be making next and rush to make it first.

An item in the Times of London seems to confirm this. The dots are connected; Miyamoto loves puzzles, Brain Age follows; Miyamoto likes to exercise and stay fit, Wii Fit is released; Miyamoto takes music lessons and enjoys music, Wii Music is unveiled. The writer of the article, whom attributes to sources within Nintendo, says the third time was enough and has asked Miyamoto to keep hush-hush about his interests.

The I Am 8-Bit art show kicks off next week and will feature more awesome video game related art than you'll ever see in your short, miserable, insignificant life. I kid, I kid, but a lot of the art shown is press kick ass.

The free show is to feature free drinks, free posters and some free concerts. It will start on August the 14th at 8 p.m. and will run until midnight at the World of Wonder Storefont Gallery, 6650 Hollywood Boulevard, at the corner of Cherokee. Sadly, I don't know where the hell that is and won't be attending, although I wish I could. There's always a lot of cool old school Nintendo related art that's worth seeing.

Check out the official website for more details.

Meet David Gosen. David Gosen used to be the head of Nintendo of Europe, until he left in 2004 that is. What's he doing now? He's Microsoft's VP of Strategic Marketing and LIVE for Europe and he's got something to say about the way Nintendo's running things right now.

David Gosen wrote:

I think it’s really important that you don’t underestimate the knowledge base of the consumer. What Nintendo have done with the Wii is truly fantastic –- there is no question about it. But I think sometimes there is a thin line between gimmick and great gameplay. We’ve seen some research that says 60 per cent of people who bought a Wii Fit play it once and don’t play it again. So we have to get the balance right, because what we are doing is bringing new consumers into the market for the first time in their lives they are playing games sometimes –- and we have to treat them with respect.

So, what's he trying to say? In a nut shell, Nintendo's playing part of its target audience, the 'non-gamers' as fools, feeding them games which sacrifice gameplay for unnecessary gimmicks. Keep in mind though, David Gosen left Nintendo in 2004. That's before they printed money :P

It's pretty safe to say that everyone was disappointed with Nintendo's E3 offerings. I mean, we all hoped Nintendo would bring out some killer that we've been waiting for. (New Kirby, Donkey Kong, Kid Ikarus, Zelda?!) But none of that was shown. Sure, there was Pikmin, but only as an afterthought. Well, George Walker from Aeropause writes:

George Walker wrote:

Face it, the Wii is the “Tickle-Me Elmo” of the past couple holiday seasons largely because of the excitement and fervor that the hardcore gaming communities fostered for it. Will these same people be as excited for the next Nintendo system? No, of course not. Naturally, there will be the 500,000 “brick-buyers” that will buy the next system as long it says “Nintendo” and will eventually be able to play the next Smash Brothers game. However, the rest of us will be watching carefully, waiting to see if get shafted a second time. Once bitten, twice shy…

He hates an interesting perspective on Nintendo's future success with hardcore gamers. And it's well worth a read, and perhaps a discussion in the comments.

What were you hoping for at E3? What are your thoughts on the article?
